  1. I would assume that there was a lot of pressure on the other side to get it open, as the cattle industry, with the exception of the one group, was in a big backslide. The higher prices, and the lack of cattle probably pissed off a few states. The Canadian producers had actually got creative and the market was expanding for them, so ultimately, if the opening holds, they’ll have a fairly diverse and larger market then they had before.

  2. “This is great news for the future of the U.S. beef industry, specifically the many ranchers, feeders, and processing plants that have been struggling to make ends meet due to the closed border.”

  3. I’ll wait until I hear that R-CALF (is that the right name?) doesn’t try for yet another injunction. As Les pointed out, until cattle & steaks start crossing the border in both directions…

  4. Not over till the fat cow sings but never the less good news anyhow. R-CALF is expected to file an injunction all the way to the supreme court if required. There is also the matter of the Montana judge but hopes are high. Been a long wait.

  5. Anyone else ever suspect that maybe Judge Cebull’s injunction was bought?

  6. Yes it is a good day today.
After four days, the dental surgury on my upper jaw seems to be much less painful.
We cleaned up getting coins with the metal detector after Van Isl Musicfest. [Calgary’s Bill Johnson and Gary Preston were great!]
I got the lawns mowed and Albertan’s are now less stressed to dump the rest of us and go it alone. 73s TG

  7. Judge Cebull (and oh, what a perfect name, “Judge See Bull”, tee hee) is a federal judge, so while I daresay he could theoretically be bought, it would be a very risky business. Under the American system, lots of people would stand to benefit from exposing and bringing down a bent judge, and could get into a position to do it. It’s not like here, where if you take on a bent judge, you destroy yourself, and the judge just keeps on trucking.
Obviously his decision was wrong, and I expect he knew that perfectly well when he made it, but I think it’s more likely that he actually wanted that outcome for reasons of his own than that he was bought. Bear in mind, Bush was on record as wanting the border open. There are lots of wackos in the US who would chop their feet off if Bush announced that he wanted every citizen to have feet.

  8. BEEF

The US has opened its border again to Canadian beef. Since I spent a week with one of the affected parties a little while ago, theres a few comments I want to make here. Its not just good news for…

  9. Les, buddy, steak has been going back and forth across the border without interruption for years now.
This has all been about LIVE cattle. Glad that it may be over though.
