Chuck was forced to become an Independent because the Reform/Conservative organization was not intelligent or prepared enough to shunt aside usurpers such as the bonehead (what was that entirely forgettable idiot’s name anyway) who stole Chuck’s nomination.
Given the ability of so many politicians to switch sides at opportune moments, it is not beyond the possibilities of the situation that there was another Liberal “plant” attempt happening there.
So – if you can’t get your man elected, it would seem that the next best alternative would be to figure out what could be done to influence the fellow who made it.
Is it beyond imagination that the Liberals might have figured out how to manipulate what Chuck though his “constituents” were saying? In other words, was Chuck getting false information?
The Liberals fight dirty, folks. Never give them the benefit of the doubt.
Insofar as Chuck stood up for what he believed, he was one of the best. But he seemed to change his mind, and I can’t help but wonder whether it was changed for him.
He deserves peace.
I didn’t know George Cadman and I don’t know his family. If they are reading this, it’s not because I invited them to. And I’m not concerned with honouring his memory, so perhaps they ought to consider not reading further.
Cadman was many things, and he was often highly honourable. He was, however, a sore loser and a man who let a petty grudge trump his duty to his country. I think he was right to want the same rules to apply to his Conservative nomination as had applied to his Reform nomination, ie., citizens only allowed to vote. But since they didn’t apply, he was a fool not to play by the rules he was stuck with, and he was worse than a fool for blaming anyone but himself for losing.
And he was much worse than a fool for punishing the entire country in order to lash out at the people he blamed. We all suffer because of this man’s moral weakness. Did he do us all enough good in his time to amke up for that? I’d need some convincing.
Count ’em: Librano$$$$$$$$ steal another summer election; 1, 2, elections stolen from the voters of Surrey North.

VANCOUVER and OTTAWA — The death of independent MP Chuck Cadman leaves a big hole in the political landscape and all indications are it is not one the Liberals will be in a rush to fill.
The vacancy, however, puts the minority government in a dilemma. Should it quickly call a by-election in Surrey North in an attempt to add a crucial seat by taking advantage of Conservative Party disarray in British Columbia?
Or should the government avoid the risk of a devastating loss in the Vancouver-area riding where the Liberals have been historically weak, and wait for the next general election?
“I think that riding will either go NDP or Conservative in the next election,” Shinder Purewall, a political scientist at Kwantlen University College in Surrey, said yesterday. “It doesn’t have federal Liberal support. That’s just not the composition of that riding.”
I believe this: That Chuck Cadman was a dying man who was totally overwhelmed by the liberal party machine. They descended on that man with a mania akin to a locust swarm. They knew how to get to him and knew what to say and do to ensure he voted the way they wanted it done. The rest was theatre for our benefit.
He wanted something for his family no doubt and it was made possible by going along with the deal. That is my belief. I watched unfold and when Grewal had the tapes made public and we heard Tim Murphy and Ujjal talking it was then plain as day what they had done with Chuck.
I don’t blame Chuck. Leaving this world was something I am sure he did not want to do. And just as sure he knew he was going and leaving loved ones behind. He worried about this and wanted the best for his family.
It is my feeling on this more than any information I have that would confirm it. I don’t. I just watched what was happening and it was my impression a long time before the tapes showed us just how dirty the libs play.
They played it on a dying man and that is to be to their everlasting shame, not Chucks.
And, as you can see by the news report discussed in this thread, they are still at it.
It is pure flummery and flim flam. We know what it is and pretend we don’t.
When will we start calling a spade a spade to the libs faces and move their dirty little tricks out of offices across this land?
Somehow I can’t help think how easy we judge those who take the time and effort to run for office. Walk a mile in my shoes……… as the saying goes.
Regardless of your opinions it saddens me to believe anyone would post the kind of cruel comments I’ve seen here —
On that note I’m happy to sign off..
Katie girl…
Nice little clutch of Coragyps atratus you’ve hatched here. Laid them all yourself, did you?
Careful — they don’t always wait till their prey is dead before they feed. And they’ve been known to cannibalize…
My very first thought was that the Liberals had gotten to Chuck before the vote and Chuck had to think about his family.
Chuck then said that he had surveyed his constituents and a small majority had answered for the government.
Think what you like, but I believe there *was* a survey(s) and that the majority responded as advised. And Chuck Cadman, being an honest upright guy, voted for his constituents.
Thanks Kate, well said.
