  1. This is definitely not the thread to post this on, although it has to do with photographs. Pierre Bourque has put up a picture of Anne McCelland using the Nixon motto “NOW MORE THAN EVER” Even has a picture of Nixon.
Will the next picture be of Paul Martin using the Nixon line”I AM NOT A CROOK”

  2. I am always amazed at the depth of knowledge amongst blog readers and the speed at which information, or debunking of false information, gets disseminated.

  3. On the photo I’m not a gun nut but a soldier, and see no reason to call this for either side.
On the poseed photo side, yes it is possible that it was staged it’s a fairly standard “Rambo” pose.
On the Tactical side, If I were an insurgent and was looking to keep my options (Fight or Flight) open than I could easily see myself adopting such a position.
It gives the person 3 choices… the ability to fall forward into a firing position, to stand and run or to play the favorite game of cowards like these, the spray and pray from the position he is in. Yes the weapon is a machine gun but it could be fired without knocking him over in his current position. He’s going to put more rounds into the 2nd and 3rd floors of the buildings lining the streets than he will put into the “target” but as anyone who has been shot at can tell you, the crack/thump of rounds travelling in your general direction at the speed of sound sure makes you look for cover in a hurry.
As far as his finger being along the trigger guard, anyone with an modicum of weapons experience will tell you unless you are firing at that very second that is the proper place to have it.
As for his holding the barrel, that is natural enough as well, of course he wouldn’t be holding it there if it were hot but it takes quite a few rounds to make a barrel too hot to hold.
    Just my .02

  4. It matters not to me whether the photograph was staged or real. My concern is: 1) Al-Qaida is selling these photographs to major news outlets and receiving money for their terror operations; 2) The major news outlets are either paying for them, so funding terror, or have their photographers with al-Qaida–which is worse?
My major concern is the use of the term “insurgent.” The word could be applied to the Sunni-Iraqi portion, however, when there are thousands of foreign fighters led by a foreigner–Zarqawi–and the majority of the casaulties are innocent Iraqi civillians then there can be no question they are terrorists!
