Very apt. I think we are beginning to see the end of this rotten regime.

The year is 1933, this country is Germany and Hitler has just siezed the Reichstag. We should have turfed them at the gun registry. We should have turfed them at the first whiff of the scandal. We should have turfed them when the auditor general was not permitted to fully do her job. Oh Canada, Who stands on guard for thee? Not your government certainly, they just want to hold power for the priviledge of fattening their own wallets, and transfering sovereignty off shore to a world government, further fattening their wallets.

Daryl

Fattening their wallets while fingering YOUR wallet.

Haha. That's actually a pretty cool flag.

The red star of Communism; slayer of 20,000,000 human beings and counting; the red star of National Socialism (NSDAP & the USSR); the red star of Mao; the red star of Cuba, of Cambodia, of North Korea & etc.

The red star of the Librano$/NDP/Bloc.

Down with National Socialism.

Long live freedom and democracy.

Kate, OT but did you know that Ralph Goodale will be on John Gormley tomorrow? You should call in.

I've recently started to call "Dithers" "Dear Leader" as it seems to be more appropriate.

Seeing that the trend is to trade in the leaf for a nice shiny new red star, it's more so.

FWIW today I outlined the situation to both my Texas senators' offices. I had a particularly interesting conversation with a friend who works for one of the senators. My friend handed me off to someone who deals with international particulars. I outlined the situation to the expert who seemed interested and was going to go off to check on the details and then give that information to the senator.

My friend had asked me to call back after I finished my conversation with the international relations expert, and I did so. My friend told me that this particular expert is extremely good about getting back to the senator with their information, conclusions and recommendations. In fact, I was told that if anyone could be relied upon to make sure the senator was up to speed, it would be this individual.

I guess we will see if anything comes of it. If the Governor General does not come through, I will be be speaking to the offices of the Speaker of the House and the Majority Leader in the Senate.

Finally, I will just say that it seems like a "Governor General" who is a functionary for the Queen of England is an awfully insubstantial and ephemeral basis for deciding something as important as the official government.

Has "Greg" studied the history of the British Parliamentary tradition? Canada's Parliament is based on that tradition. Parliament dissolves itself when the government loses the confidence of the entire House of Commons. The previous Liberal government lost the confidence of the House of Commons by a vote of 153 to 150 of the Members of the House of Commons.

In addition, the Speaker of the House has no authority.

This tradition is at the heart of the matter being decided.

The Liberal regime with Martin as its Prime Minister has failed. The "Rump" Parliament is what is left now. The "Rump" parliament is the remnants of the former Liberal Party. The "Rump" parliament is illegal and illegitimate.

There is no government in Canada at this time. Canada is in a state of governmental "crisis".

Where does Canada go from here?

maz2, I essentially outlined the contents of your post to the people I talked with.

My intention is to try to rally American government to support Harper and the Conservatives by recognizing the lack of legitimate authority that the Martin government now has due to the no-confidence vote.

The Speaker of the House I referenced is the head of the US House of Representatives, and therefore a critical spokesman in respect to American foreign policy. If the present situation continues or deteriorates, I will be trying to talk with the office of the Speaker and of the Senate Majority Leader.

My hope is to help rally some support for you guys.

Incidentally, my name really is Greg. (Actually Gregory, but I go by Greg.)

Greg, I have posted her latest statement on the issue here.

LOL Shaken - isn't her contract up for renewal and/or cancellation? Martin renewed for 1 year last year (after her first 5 yrs were up) for "simplicity" sake. I'm under the impression that GGs have 1 5yr term, which can be renewed up to 2 yrs.

Greg, it's one of the blessings of the blogworld that we Canadians are no longer just going through all this alone. I begin to understand just a little the feeling of dissidents in countries like Iran, who feel a surge of hope when they realize that America is starting to notice what's happening. We've really come to the point where I'm afraid that we're in the power of despots, and can't hope to wriggle free of them if pressure doesn't start building from outside. The news stories in the press are a good sign. I hope the officials of other U.S. states (especially those close to the Canadian border) have people like you alerting them to the crisis developing in this country. I still can't believe the lackadaisacal attitude of Ontarians, who keep bleating "What's the rush? Why not wait?" As if Canada is just a little hermetically sealed bubble and we can just play around without anyone else noticing. In another week our dollar could tumble as Martin stalls in the hope that he can keep his perch on top of the dungheap for another week, month, year or whatever.

Thank you Greg for this.

There is a crisis of governance in Canada, IMO.

Perhaps, you will wish to verify my post with others more knowledgeable. However, the essentials are correct, one trusts.

God bless America.

The Canada of the Red Ensign has many true friends down here. It always has. You are our cousins by blood and heritage, and good families stick together.

Uh, thank you America. Sorry to interrupt, but someone called Pakistan is on the phone.

Greg -- Wow -- I'm so very impressed that you're going to bat for us... thank you! Living in Atlantic Canada, which is practically owned by the Librano's, one does tend to get a bit discouraged at times. If the Librano's get voted in again, we're looking at exit strategies -- Alberta, or the U.S. Just can't take much more of this.

I've been looking for an exit strategy for a while now. Since Atlantic Canadians were traditionally the butt of jokes (newfies), if the Liberals get in again, I'm going to sit down and pump out a 500 page book of jokes about my fellow Ontarians.

If anyone says they'd rather wait until the Gomery trial is over, they would vote Liberal anyway. I love the reasons people give me for voting Liberal:

" Stephenharperscaresme"
And Chretien didnt scare you.

" Remember Mulroney"
And conservatives had the decency to reduce the PC's to 2 seats. Ontarians get screwed worse and they come back for more.

"Mulroney gave us the GST"

We still have it. The Liberals voted against their own Red Book promise.

"They're all corrupt"

So the solution is to vote a proven corrupt party into power over and over. The LIberals also voted against their own promise to have an independant ethics counselor.

"Where does Canada go from here?"

Well for starters the new government aught to appoint Reg Alcock as speaker.

Appoint Jack Leyton as Minister of finance...

Send Paul Martin on a fact finding mission to Timor via a cesna with an RCMP body guard wearing a turban.

Move a motion that the house recognize Steven Harper as Prime Minister.

Why does Martin want to wait a week if he's not hoping that the health of sick cpcers deterioriates.

Could be fun. ha ha.

Martin is hoping to hold on to power till the Gomery Commission to finish its report which will be forwarded to the Privy Council. They will review it to see if it should be released. They will bury it and then Martin will say "See we didn't do any thing wrong and that will be the end of it".
