Ed, We Hardly Knew Ye

Via radio, news that Ed Broadbent will not seek re-election. This is not good news for Jack Layton, no matter the reason.

A mon avis, old Ed is beyond purely partisan politics. He sees his party in Bed with the Libranos and he just isn't up to pretending he likes it. Anyway, that's my take.

Ed has been quiet since "the deal with the devil". Wonder if this is why he is leaving?

I was at a meeting hosted by one of the nomination candiates for the Conservatives.

I thought we had a slight chance against Ed - now I think we have a real chance.

sick wife

It's sad he had to leave on those terms.

Ed who?

ctv.ca: "Ed Broadbent won't seek re-election"

"...I simply cannot continue in the future with all the work expected of an MP and meet my deeply felt obligations to the person who is the love of my life."

He said he made his decision about 10 days ago and "it was not a decision I mulled over a long time..."

ten days ago was when Layton was hounding Martin for a deal...a week ago it was announced. Interesting timing.

CQ has notes. Go over there.

It's a shame. While I don't necessarily agree with Ed's political stance, there's no doubt that he's a decent man at heart, and we need more of those in the House of Commons (even if they're sitting with the opposition).

Triple dipper Ed. Never milked a cow or slopped hogs on the farm nor likely to have bent his back on the end of a shovel to earn a living. But he sure knows the public trough.
Typical socialist, master at distributing other people's wealth while at the public trough.

Ed, may your wife find relief from pain and the suffering she's going through. I've never been a fan of your wealth distribution schemes, especially the ones for you politicians and your manderins. We the citizens will still be paying taxes through the nose to you and your bretheren in hog heaven. That pension scheme belongs in North Korea. If you survive 6 years you've certainly earned it.

His "socialist with a heart" schtick, the man Canadians love if he wasn't a pinko, will not be missed. He left no footprints, but broke a few tender eardrums, with his incessant bellowing.

However, may he and his wife be comforted in their trying times ahead.

You can't keep that blind marxist bullshit line going all your life.
He thought he could live the lie a little longer,he should have stayed retired.
