Martin Distances Himself From Promise To NDP

Paul Martin was on John Gormley Live this morning - briefly. He's learned to fill airtime with drawn out repetition to put off speaking to callers or facing new questions.

Early in the interview, he acknowledged that even with the support of Jack Layton, his government's fate rests on the independants in parliament. Gormley did pin him down on one question, though - if the NDP demands for $4.6 billion in spending on social programs and the environment were valid, why wasn't the spending in the budget in the first place?

Martin replied that the NDP extortion was "simply an acceleration of the existing liberal government agenda" that adding it to the budget now was just "bringing it forward"...

Then - he added that the $4.6 billion "won't be spent unless we can be assured that at least 2 billion in debt can be brought down".

I wonder if Jack Layton knows this?

I also wonder if Jack knows that Paul has offered Stephen the big coporate tax cuts in a separate piece of legislation if Stephen will support the bill up front. Or did Jack and Paul cook that up together in bed last night??

Of course Jack didn't know that, or Jack wouldn't have gone along with it.*snicker* Actually, Jack probably WOULD still go along with it except now Paul wants to continue with the tax cuts - THAT's what Jack is going to have a problem with... (I wonder if Jack is going to take advantage of the latest legislation allowing the sale of the "morning after" pill over the counter? If not, he's going to be having the political equivalent of Rosemary's Baby, methinks, and it won't take 9 months.)

The Liberal math in the past 12 hours is scary. Last night, Paul said the 4.6 billion would come out of the projected 9.0 billion surplus, and the balance would go to pay off the debt (sounds like 4.4 billion to me). This morning, he needs to only pay down 2.0 billion - I guess he needs the other 2.4 for election...cancel that, "previously planned, just haven't had the time to roll it out"... spending. Or maybe the other 2.4 is the tax cuts that he really IS going to give corporate Canada now that they've all yelled & screamed at him from the headlines. Which, surprisingly, he's going to separate from the budget and create a separate piece of legislation for. But he can't do that with the Accord?

Am I the only one confused here?

Please, Harper, put us out of our misery SOON!

does Martin even know anymore when he is lying, rationalizing or creating figments from someone else's imagination ??

I think he is starting to lose his grip. . .

Might be time for a psycho eval

The Tories phoned me just now to see if I would consider voting Conservative. I said: "Not only yes, but I'd crawl over a mile of broken glass to get to the polling station!"

On the basis of that, they're giving me a lawn sign.

Let's just get on with the election! We can clobber Jack Layton, too!

Perhaps Jack Laydown will now know how the rest of us feel.

WOOHOO! Stephen Harper just promised that he will bring down the liberals ASAP!! We knew he wouldn't go for the threesome didn't we?

"WOOHOO! Stephen Harper just promised that he will bring down the liberals ASAP!!"

Now it's time for all good boys and girls to pick a Liberal MP and insure that they are soon collecting their generous pension.
Under worked Albertans can help in Ontario or for ridings in their "old countries" back east.

Start at their websites. They will have posted enough generous ingredients to help Fry themselves.

I don't think that Jack Layton cares, really, whether Martin will carry out the Martin-Layton agreement. It wasn't about 'making these things happen'. i.e., affordable housing, clean air, blah blah. It was an election strategy right from the beginning.

Think about it. Think of the prime time coverage Layton got out of it. He was presenting himself on television as if he were the PM. He was showing himself as powerful.
Then - when Martin's gov't falls in the next few weeks - Layton hasn't lost anything. It will be Harper-who-prevented 'all these good things'. It was be Martin-who-prevented 'all these good things'.
If these nasty people had only listened to The Savior, Jack Layton, all would be fine and dandy.

It was a blatant, cynical, manipulative election strategy.

ET, I think you're underestimating Jack's ego & overestimating his intellect.

I also listened to Paulie on John Gormley Live this morning. Martin was asked is he not a hypocrite for firing Gagliano without definitive evidence of guilt, when he (Martin) himself is also implicated in the same corruption. The caller also put to Martin that he should resign and call an election because the Liberal party is scandal-ridden.

Mr. Dithers got somewhat defensive and went on to say that no Liberal government member was involved in the scandal. Then he stated that only a few Liberals were involved in the scandal and this did not require calling an election.

It seems Paulie will do and say whatever will keep his control of the PMO. I'd say he has some issues with denial, delusions of grandiosity, obbsession, compulsive lying etc. etc.

I just wonder what he is trying to cover up that he is going to such arduous lengths to prevent an election. Me thinks he is guilty, guilty, guilty!

Paul is worried about the lazy, sleazy Canadian media reporting the 'goings on' at the U.N Oil for food investigation. It is 'out' all over the world but the liberal lapdogs here are pretending they don't know anything about it! Check out Mark Styne at Western Standard or Timesonline (http://www.timesonline.co.uk) or go to Fox News. It is BIG news everywhere but here in the dense fog of Canada -we are indeed a backward bunch of hillbillies -much to the advantage of the tinpot thugs who are in control, elected and approved by their stupid 'hoards'.
I just want to say that I have been called many names by the Lib/ND followers but I have never, knowingly, voted for a known criminal. Does that make the 'followers' dime store crooks themselves or are they just lazy and stupid?
My many Thank-you's to you, Kate, for your excellent site and to the many other bloggers who are constantly working to deliver the REAL news. The Western Standard should be purchased and distributed in HUGE numbers by the Conservatives, prior to the election. Older people who VOTE are readers and not many of them know very much about the internet. I am going to suggest this at our meeting on Thur.
Keep up the good work everyone. Don't believe anything the MSM says; good, bad, indifferent...the MSM are sponsered, peopled, and driven with your dollars - and these dollars are labled NATIONALIST SOCIALIST PARTY.

Sure, he's guilty, but Canadians should, in my humble opinion, ask themselves why Martin does not resign. That would be the sensible political move - if Martin truly had the interests of the Liberal Party at heart.

My intuition tells me that he's desperately clining to his position for another reason - to protect Maurice Strong. It's patently obvious that Maurice Strong is at risk of being indicted in the Oil for Food Scandal. But, so long as Martin remains in office, the indictment of Strong in the US would be portrayable as a move by the Bush administration to "interfere" in Canadian politics. I'm thinking Martin clings to his position to afford Maurice Strong with de facto immunity from prosecution.

Good call, Texan - that makes a sick kind of sense.

On a lighter note, apparently my emails to MPs have landed me on none other than LayDown's mailing list - I just opened this HA!

"Dear Friend,

I am writing on the budget agreement which I believe provides a better, balanced budget for Canadians.

I promised to listen to Canadians and I have. We have succeeded in getting things done and making this parliament work for all Canadians.

This budget deal will enable families to pay less for their kids' education and workers will get better training. Pollution levels will be
reduced, affordable housing built and there will be money to protect workers' pensions. I am especially pleased there is funding for a
national child care program and the gas tax revenue going to municipalities.

This is a balanced budget that is fiscally responsible yet gives a much needed tax relief to small and medium sized businesses.

This agreement represents a victory for Canadian people. We know minority Parliaments can work - the NDP created medicare, affordable housing, and pensions during previous minority governments. The bottom line is the NDP is about people and not about games or corruption.

I appreciate the time you took to share your views and concerns as they have been helpful during this process.

Sincerely,

Jack Layton, MP (Toronto-Danforth)
Leader, Canada's New Democrats"

*giggle* I will come up with a suitable response while waiting for child's choir practice to end (usually this is a boring task, but tonight it promises to be a tad more interesting)...

suggestions are welcome ;-)

Jema 54: The motion is carried. Unanimously.

LiberalNDP is in all senses a:

National Socialist Party.

Long live freedom and democracy.

People of Ontario-Show some intelligence and don't fall for the Liberal fear-mongering.
You're a joke to western Canadians for continually falling for the Liberals' portrayal
of the Conservatives. Is there anybody who
wouldn't want a whole country like Alberta?
