Juno Awards

Listening to it on the TV upstairs, the tedious wreck that was the Juno Awards has just been redeemed by kd lang singing "Hallellujah".

The bathrobe and barefeet.. oh well. She's who she is. Good job.

Did I fear correctly, I thought I heard the Tragically Hip dude suggest that the UN headquartes should be moved to Halifax?

And what's with entertainers current need to do political commentary, on stage. Would Harper, Martin and Layton be applauded if they broke out their guitars and warbled Four Strong Winds, during the leaders debate?

Of course, if the Tragically Hip really want to move the UN to Canada, why not choose some bustling metropolis like, say, Thompson or Bobcaygeon?

Ah come on guys & gals, nothing worth discussing here, Gord Downie just goes off on rants sometimes when he performs, don't read anything into that. Lighten up!

By the way, yes kd's performance was great, but the Hip's performance was what REALLY redeemed the Junos!

My favourite line from Gord was during "Grace Too" when he said, after several minutes of incomprehensible ranting: "....but I digress!"

kd has an amazing voice and can do brilliant things with the right material, but I thought her rendition of "Hallelujah" was over-orchestrated and overwrought. I can't imagine anything will ever touch Jeff Buckley's version, which you should make a point of hearing if you haven't yet.

I liked kd's "Helpless" though.
