The Cheer Heard ‘Round The Nation

“Rex Murphy: The story goes around that at the next day’s caucus meeting — Mr. Chretien, I, my judgement, ah, wasn’t the most hospitable witness — but that you were supposed to be leading a cheer for Mr. Chretien the next morning in the caucus. That’s been reported widely and a number of people have called in here today. (a) Did you? and (b) If you did, why did you do so?
Paul Martin: No, I, I think — first of all, you, I think you understand as well as I do that, that there’s nobody at those caucus meetings except Members of Parliament, so anybody reporting on them is reporting, you know, second, third, fourth-hand. Ah, but fundamentally, ah, what happened is that, that caucus, ah, ah, did react, ah, to the fact that a former prime minister had just testified, and that’s a very very rare occasion to testify in front of a commission such as this. And that was, that’s what, that’s all that happened, there were a number of issues discussed, but they, they just simply said: former prime minister testified. I mean, the fact is that I testified as well, and, and ah, I took it very very seriously and I think that we would all take it very seriously under those circumstances. It fundamentally comes back to this — integrity in public life requires I’m telling the truth.”

He’s made a believer out of some people.

I believe Martin when he says he deeply respects Gomery. I believe he showed his respect when he led the Liberal caucus in a standing ovation for Jean Chretien’s display of open contempt for Gomery. I believe Martin wants no stone left unturned. I believed that when he ordered Liberal MPs to shut down the Public Accounts Committee’s investigations last year, before the last election. I believe if the Liberals get a majority government again, they wouldn’t shut down the committee again, or interfere with Gomery, as they have with other inquiries.
I believe Martin when he says he’s glad that Sheila Fraser, the auditor general, issued her report. I believe Liberal MPs and spin doctors were acting without Martin’s approval when they personally attacked Fraser.
I believe Martin when he says he was happy to fire Alfonso Gagliano. I don’t think it’s odd that last summer he recorded a video birthday greeting for Gagliano, saying “I wish I could be there Alfonso. You may be a terrible golfer, but you’re a tremendous political leader. Congratulations.”

Heh.

  1. Actually, that video was released last year during the election, but it was from 1999. Still, it shows he was closer to Gagliano than he let on.

  2. By the way, the Libs have just announced that they’re willing to discuss deferring the corporate tax cuts announced in the budget in order to make a deal with the NDP. How the hell can you defer cuts that are already deferred until 2008, I’m not sure. I guess it’s nice to see the Liberals advertise their soul for sale. I didn’t think they had one.

  3. And as Frank Zappa would say: “Gonocawcawcawcus” (From his hit record, Why Does it Hurt When I Pee?) These people stick closer than shit to a blanket.

  4. Yes, where IS Justin these days, why is he not racing to the defense of his father’s party? Hmmmm… maybe he’s waiting for the fallguy (whichever poor sap gets to be leader after Martin sails off into the sunset) to suffer a bit, then he’ll arrive like… I dunno, superman?
Well, here’s the latest I could find… copyright 2005, so must be relatively current.
    http://www.cpaws.org/boreal/english/supporters/justin-trudeau.html
“…Justin is also the chair of Katimavik, our national youth service program, where he works to increase the engagement of Canada’s youth with their country, their communities and their environment. He is also involved with Harvest Montreal, the region’s largest food bank, and wilderness groups such as the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.
Justin Trudeau presently resides in Montreal, but his work with a large number of diverse organizations and **levels of government** keeps him travelling extensively to help ensure that Canada is prepared to meet the challenges and responsibilities its future holds…”
    hmmm, “levels of government”…
    Yup, Leader-in-Waiting…

  5. Official RCMP spokesthingy: “We are unable to comment on an on-going criminal investigation, and we will not do so, until after the next federal election, or the one after that. What do you think they pay us for, Stupid?”

  6. Im having nightmares…..Justin Trudeau, looks like he has credentials for a U.N.Post as well……
Frank Zappa…how about album;Youve been ripped off. You would think of all fans his could take a joke……wrong..sue,sue, sue

  7. Montreal. Guy walks into an Italian restaurant.
    Alphonso: Jean, over here!
Jean walks over to the man at the table.
Jean: Alphonso, good to see you. Is this your restaurant?
Alphonso: Belongs to some friends of mine, but I got a piece of the joint.
    Jean sits down.
    Jean: Isn’t that Puccini?
    Alphonso: Tosca.
Jean: I wanted to meet with you because I know you to be a serious man. What’ good here?
    Alphonso: Try the clams.
Guy with an Italian suit and wraparound sunglasses comes over and whispers to Alphonso, who nods, and the guy walks away.
Jean: That’s a great Titian on the wall.
Alphonso: If you should happen to go to the 3rd stall in the wahsroom, check out the Bottacelli over the mirror.
    Jean: I’ll do that.
Alphonso: If you’re in town next week, the Bolshoi will be doing Don Quixote. We can get the wives together, get something to eat.
Jean: You know Al, that redneck down in Texas, his ranch, not one chandelier. I promise you, the guy doesn’t know a Chardonnay from a Bordeax.
Alphonso: Friggin’ Americans. All they do is make good people tense.
Jean: I think I need to go to the washroom.
    They raise glasses.
Jean: To peace, order and good government.
Alphonso: And to this thing of ours. And on and on it goes.

  8. Raging Ranter…if you check out the budget..everything in it is defered by at least 1 year…so why the big fuss over Smilin Jack prostituting himself out to Martin?? and now we know why Martin was smiling so much in his taped plea to Canada…if you had Jack’s nose up your a**…you’d be grining too!!

  9. “It fundamentally comes back to this — integrity in public life requires I’m telling the truth.”
Let’s repeat that, slowly, for full effect.
Integrity. in. public. life. requires. I’m. telling. the. truth.
And all along I just thought Martin was Maurice Strong’s pawn. But now we know. He is clinically insane.

  10. Now I’m pissed, Global, locally, has the cons and libs almost even……………… and this a TV station in Alberta?????

Did PM Dithers and screaching annie phone them or something?

Cross another virus infected channel off the list…..Damn, I only got one channel left to watch news… FoxNews……..ahhhh.. now that’s better…

  11. rob…let’s not forgot where Global’s HQ are…in the soon to hopefully be not part of our Canada…little shithole called Ontario….pull the gas and oil for real this time and let the eastern Liberal bastards/whores freeze. Or maybe Papa dalton’s new electricity program will keep them warm.
    PO’d in the west

  12. I know what your saying fubar, and here’s why it’s wacked out and totally inaccurate. I’ve been monitoring the radio polls accross the country, which takes a larger sampling then a Librano paid off polster, with a Librano paid off TV media.

Average across canada is 53%, with 67% locally, that want an election NOW! Now how the hell does that translate to just about even when the question implies, are you pissed enough to go to the polls now.

What a bunch of propaganda spewing dumb asses. Especially since all these people are probably driving in there car, listening to the radio and hearing one poll, then get home and here that crap.

  13. Nealenews:
Demand for criminal probe of Lieberal appointment of judges by Conservatives & Bloc refused….REFUSED, by Liberal Justice Minister Cotler, MP from Montreal, appointed by Payola Martini.
This is serious shi*. Justice is being denied. Criminals are on the streets, on the benches, no one is safe.

  14. “What happened is that caucus did react to ah aformer Prome Minister What a liar. Caucus reacted to ah the fact ah a former Prime Minister had testified.”
What a liar. The Liberal caucus is celebrating the fact that a former Prime Minister has been draggged before an Inquiry investigating corruption that goes to the heart of the Liberal Party?
    He thinks Canadians are stupid.

  15. Sorry. So much to do so little time. Please ignore unedited comment above. Below is a better attempt.

  16. Ya know, technically, we don’t need to have an election to keep the thieves out of the house of parliament. Read this very carefully, I had to read it over a few times before I realized the full repercussions of the Librano’s scandalous actions. By the way feel free to copy this and send it to any of your MP’s bringing this to their attention. With profound thanks to Ed.
    PARLIAMENT OF CANADA ACT
PART III – HOUSE OF COMMONS
DIVISION B – CONFLICT OF INTEREST
    34. Where a person, directly or indirectly, alone or with any other, personally or by the interposition of any trustee or third party, holds, enjoys, undertakes or executes any contract or agreement, expressed or implied, with or for the Government of Canada on behalf of the Crown, or with or for any of the officers of the Government of Canada, for which any public money of Canada is to be paid, the person is not eligible to be a member of the House of Commons and shall not sit or vote therein.
    DISQUALIFICATION:
    35. If any member of the House of Commons
    (a) accepts any office or commission, or is concerned or interested in any contract, agreement, service or work, that, by virtue of this Division, renders a person incapable of being elected to, or of sitting or voting in, the House of Commons, or
    (b) knowingly sells to the Government of Canada any goods, wares or merchandise, or knowingly performs for the Government of Canada or for any of the officers of that Government any service, for which any public money of Canada is paid or to be paid,
whether the contract, agreement or sale is expressed or implied and whether the transaction is single or continuous, the seat of the member is thereby vacated and the member’s election is thenceforth void.
    PENALTY:
    36. (1) Any person who, by this Division, is declared ineligible to be a member of the House of Commons or is disqualified from sitting or voting therein or, having been duly elected, is disqualified pursuant to section 35 from continuing to be such a member or continuing to so sit or vote, and who nevertheless sits or votes in the House of Commons or continues to do so, shall forfeit the sum of two hundred dollars for each day on which the person so sits or votes.
    Recovery of PENALTY
    (2) A sum forfeited by any person under subsection (1) is recoverable from that person by any person who sues for it in any court of competent civil jurisdiction in Canada.
I think I read in here that the goings on of adscam, instantly revoke the liberal partys most recent election, as this act of parliament would have had them ineligible for nomination, (sec 34) as well, any incumbents would have been removed from office and their pensions revoked as per this piece of legislation(sec.35 a and or b). The fact that the evidence concerning adscam has not yet fully met the light of day, should have no bearing on the retroactive nullification of the liberal party members election. Also it implies that lack of knowledge of the deeds within adscam do not alleviate any of the consequences of those deeds. (35 a) Thus the plausible deniability defense that Martin and co. have been using is void, they should have much more careful who they called friends.

  17. A side note to my previous post is that it helps to speak the words out loud untill they make sense, legalese is like latin that way.

  18. I read that over at Ed’s sometime ago. I think it should be required reading for everybody, especially those crooks who are now attempting another ‘fleece over’ with ole’ Jack Layton’s help.
I have been saying for awhile now that any member of parliament worth his salt who has a liberal seat should pick himself or herself up and march across the floor. I won’t have any respect for any of them until they do. And if none cross beyond Kilgore, then they deserve to go down with the lot.

  19. And those polls!: The Conservatives even with the Lying Liberals? COME ON!-I’ve been po’d with this spin on the polls from the start. I have never believed that the Conservatives were as low as they had them anyhow.
Radio call in shows sure spice up the airwaves with cantankerous and irate callers. Maybe they were too damn mad calling in to voice their opinion of this cesspool to partake in the ‘polls’. And , another thing: I heard last week that Independent Chuck Cadman was thinking of propping up the government as he was of the mind that his constituents wouldn’t want an election. E-mailed about how disappointing that revolting development was to us. NOW, I see on the news tonight that Chuck Cadman is going to vote to bring down the government because his constituents have made it clear they are hopping mad and do not intend to take it anymore.
With the radio shows, the Internet, The blogosphere and our calling and writing to make our feelings plain as damn day, maybe the mps will get the message. Even those hanging on to a liberal riding.

  20. I’m likin’ that “conflict of interest” piece, thanks, Daryl!
and, maz2, if Daryl is right, then your comment about Nealenews:
Demand for criminal probe of Lieberal appointment of judges by Conservatives & Bloc refused….REFUSED, by Liberal Justice Minister Cotler, MP from Montreal, appointed by Payola Martini.”
may be moot. When with Mr. Cotler appointed? before or after? and, does it matter which?
    this could be fun…

  21. Cotler appointed Minister fo Justice (injustice?) by Payola Martini. Moot? I dunno…
    Canadian Bar Association:
    http://www.cba.org/CBA/Home.asp
    E-mail: info@cba.org
This Canadian taxpayer messaged CBA asking whether the judges appointed by the Lieberals have broken the Assoc.’s code of conduct. No reply. This ignorant peasant expects no reply.

  22. Publication ban imposed on Coffin’s testimony at Gomery Inquiry.
Chretien attempts to have Judge Gomery booted off the bench at the Inquiry.
Justice in Canada is now injustice.
Citizens’ right to know has been abrogated/destroyed/killed/held hostage by ChretienMartin and the Liberal Party.
To know go to Captain’s Quarters. Long live America.

  23. Hey there Snowbunnie:
Any of the liberals worth their salt should simply fire themselves and refrain from voting as that is exactly what the conflict of interest laws of parliament state. Not that one should cross the floor, not that one should council your leader to shut the hell up and sweep the whole matter under the carpet. They ain’t even allowed in the chambers of parliament to talk to their buddy’s about how THEY should vote, It might be nice to have their votes on the conservative, Non confidence in the government, side of the house, but a tainted by conflict of interest vote is still tainted by that conflict of interest. Legally they aren’t even allowed to vote their opinion about what kind of lunch should be brought into the house.
It shouldn’t surprize us that they will continue to vote any way.
    Daryl
