Here in North Carolina, even the vegetables serve as saturated fat delivery systems.
On the buffet menu today were deep fried green beans. They accompanied the deep fried chicken, and were topped off with deep fried pastry desserts with fillings, which I was told are called "Frahed Pah".
I'm going to need a plunger to unclog my arteries.

Better warn the airlines about the extra baggage....
oops....shouldn't have said that, the liberals made me do it ...honest..with the fat tax as long as you don't have to pay for two seats ya should be ok....going back to the dog house now.
You ignore the important qustion - was it good?
It's funny how these recipes and general styles of eating and food choice have been handed down through the years from a time when people really did need to have everything laced with as much extra energy (fat!) as possible, because they would then return to the fields and work those poor bodies out in ways we can't even imagine. But today, we can't continue to eat like that, without the same work, or we are in trouble! Ouch! Still, some of it is quite tasty! (And some just too rich!) My husband is in North Carolina right now (I'm in California), so I envied your trip there! Love your blog!
Deeeeeeeep fried cauliflower....I've died and gone to heaven, thank you kindly.
I hope you've had the opportunity to take in a "pig pickin". They take it serious in the Carolinas
Beware the boiled peanuts!
Don't forget the iced tea, sweetened to within an inch of your life.
I like the barbeque in eastern NC. The prime ingredient is of a vinegary nature, rather than hot peppers. So you taste the pork and the sauce.
Don't forget the deep fried Ice-cream. It's a killer.
