Sgrena's Speeding Car

Now I'm angry.

ABC News:

A senior U.S. military official tells ABC News he believes the investigation into the fatal shooting of an Italian intelligence officer by U.S. troops in Iraq will ultimately prove the officer's car was traveling in excess of 100 mph.

After three major wars, Saddam Hussein's negligence towards the country's infrastructure, and two years of damage by roadside devices and carbombings, Iraq still has better highways than we do in Saskatchewan.

It was moving faster than a getaway car.So, where's the ransom money?

ABC
"Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini, however, said the car was traveling no faster than 25 mph,"

From my observations in Italy, one does not reduce speed to 25 MPH until it is time to parallel park on the sidewalk.

" Iraq still has better highways than we do in Saskatchewan."

As far as the quality of roads goes, it depends on whether the ultimate person in charge, likes to drive fast.
The United Arab Emirates has the best highways in the world because the Sheik's have a large collection of Lamborghinis, Merc's, etc. Closer to home think of the glory days of Flying Phil Galardi, who was the Minister of Highways in BC, during the 60's.

LGF has some links to a Dutch reporter who was with Sgrena going into Iraq reporting their conversation is interesting and she is pathetic! Examination of what she has written recently makes you wonder if she has any credibility with the reading public anywhere. Reporting the use of napalm and the possibility of nuclear weapon use at the taking of the Bagdhad airport puts her reporting completely in the realm of fantasy.

The Italian PM was quoted on Fox News today as saying that the car stopped immediately when the Americans manning the checkpoint flashed the light.

Maybe he forgot that Sgrena's version of the story was that no light was flashed at them, and that it wasn't a checkpoint because the tank was off the side of the road.

And it's hard to tell from the picture ABC News has on their site with the article cited (you can see the side window is blown out), but there are reports of the car Sgrena used being shown with just a few bullet holes (maybe a dozen), still shy of the 300 Sgrena claims.
