Actually the biggest slowdown I see on your page is the Seismic Map at 116kb next would be the volcano cam at 50kb.
I downloaded your new rifle image and was able to optomize it from 16kb down to 8kb, which means you can probably set the optomization levels lower with very little quality loss.
If you fire some images off to me privately, I can show you the changes.
The 116kb would give you a real noticeable slow down on your 56k modem. For the rest of us it's not that noticable.
the map and webcams dont' slow my loading down too badly at this end... though I often just turn off my images on Opera and go plain text to speed things anyway... it's the damned blogrolling that hangs. I should by rights, move everything to the right side to avoid that. Not sure I want to screw around the template quite that much.
Downloaded it....opens a little bit slower then Firefox(milliseconds), but page loading and display is about the same. Not much difference here, your whole page loads in about 3 seconds.
It takes a little longer than ten seconds on my slow ass modem, but I've been comparing it against other blogsites, and it's relatively better than most I go to, so I haven't worried too much about the number of images.
I have loyalty issues. My IP went out of their way to help get me online with a 1984 IBM XT. Gave me an unrestricted shell account. I dont' subscribe to cable TV anyway, and have a visceral dislike for anything Sask-Tel. The SaskGov'tTel has gone out of their way to crush competitors in the IT industry.
Why this blog? Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice
of an ordinary Canadian
yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I can't answer or use every
tip, but all are
appreciated!

Holy hell, woman. When you
send someone traffic,
you send someone TRAFFIC.

I was being DDoSed. -

Ha!..... That's funny..companies spend thousands to get themselves listed, and you do it with a few words.
Are your services for sale, you could be rich!
I should probably do blog ads... but they slow down the page loading so badly.
So how many hits did you get as a reult of the "Kate" semi-nudie you posted?

Hey Kate
Forgot I had this:

Hmmm.. don't use or build for opera, I have to download it and try it out again. Haven't done that for a few years.
I'll run a comparison on the other 3 majors and see how it stacks up.

Thanks for the feedback, Rob. My computer is Suse Linux, so I have no way of checking how anything MS loads...
Actually, neither do I... ;-)
We ron OSX and linux here as well. Linuix flavers are SUSE, yellowdog, and were testing linspire for a commercial install.
Loads very quickly on my Opera on Windoze ...about 1 second ... but then I also surf around with images turned off.
Turn them on and it's about 10 seconds more to load the front page (ADSL).
It takes a little longer than ten seconds on my slow ass modem, but I've been comparing it against other blogsites, and it's relatively better than most I go to, so I haven't worried too much about the number of images.
Telus High Speed
Opera 7 (4 sec.)
IE 6 (9 sec.)
Netscape 7.1 (25 sec!)
Have you looked into DSL from sympatico? It's a good value of $44/mo unlimited uploads/downloads.
