Thanks, Kate. I'd always wondered about the footballs, and at least the article hints at the meaning. Still, probably not as engrossing as the explanation you gave on CHQR of your iconic moribund gopher.

I'll add, that while there is a certain "similarity" in tone between the two blog names, "small dead animals" actually predates LGF by several years - it began as a fringe humour page at my Katewerk website.
