"Canada, We Got A Problem"

| 13 Comments | 3 TrackBacks

Searching the Elections Canada Financial Reports, Vitor Marciano has uncovered a long, long list of registered charities, as well as municiple governments who are donating to the Liberal Party of Canada.

Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation
British Columbia's Children's Hospital Foundation
Children's Hospital of Winnipeg Research Foundation Inc.
Toronto Zoo
Calgary Zoo
BC Cancer Agency
Canadian Cancer Society
Catholic Health Corporation of Manitob
International Fund for Animal Welfare

Most of these gave money only to Liberals.

And this is most intriguing...

You will discover that the OLO in 1993 (Jean Chretien) gave $60,268 of taxpayers money to the Liberal Party of Canada and that the PMO in 1997 (Jean Chretien) gave $43,389.37 of taxpayers money to the Liberal Party of Canada.

I did a little quick searching for potentially taxpayer funded/grant recipient Liberal Party Only supporters:

City Of Saskatoon Utility Refund
Saskatoon Centennial Auditorium Foundation
Edmonton Art Gallery
Winnipeg Art Gallery

Vitor has multiple posts up, so just go to the main page. I have a full day's work out of town tomorrow. Anyone who finds more, and wants to trackback, feel welcome. Watch for updates.

mailed this over to the calgary sun incase they want to do a story on it.

Actually Kate that Saskatoon Utility refund is just that, a refund. So its OK.
How donors to the Winnipeg and Edmonton Art Galleries and the Saskatoon Auditorium feel is another matter.
Oh what a country!

I was very curious about the refund - thanks for explaining it. Makes sense now. Well, sort of.

The Schizophrenia Society of Canada donated $417 to the Libs back in 2000. This pisses me off. No Food Banks have donated thankfully, as I donate to them rather extensively and I'd probably pop a blood vessel if I caught them giving my money back to Ottawa.

Erf. Punch in 'native' and 'aboriginal' -- the results won't surprise anyone.

Both U of Guelph and U of Toronto (Law Society) donated small sums, but just to the Liberals.
I guess that's the end of my contributions to my alma mater(s). It will be interesting to hear their responses the next time they call to ask me for monies.

You'll discover that nearly all the organizations with "Indian" in them are exclusively Liberal donators, as well.

Oh boy, I typed in Metis and it goes on forever. I've been kicking myself in the ass.

I typed in "immigration" and found 43 donations by immigration consultants to Liberals, 7 donations to non-Liberals.

One hand washes the other.

It's been a long while since I've looked at the tax rules around charities, but doesn't this put their status as charities at risk?

Hey ?? What the....
Whats with the Cancer charities giving graft,... er ah charity to the libs ?
I thought that they were basically apposed to cancer???

"It's been a long while since I've looked at the tax rules around charities, but doesn't this put their status as charities at risk?"

Well, technically yes, but then again the Lieberals are well represented among the board of the Canada Revenue Agency, so don't hold your breath.

The prior post as to the Canadian Cancer Society being "opposed to cancer".

Priceless.
