Launch Failed?

Against the backdrop of Paul Martin squelching hope in the cattle industry, the MSM has been reporting a “failed” test of the missile defense shield. From Powerline this background information;

The Reuters report by Jim Wolf of a failed missile defense test last night is flawed by either intent or ignorance.

The first test in nearly two years of a multibillion-dollar U.S. anti-missile shield failed on Wednesday when the interceptor missile shut down as it prepared to launch in the central Pacific, the Pentagon said.

The interceptor missile did not shut down because of some malfunction, it was shut down intentionally because of inability to monitor performance of a boost stage rocket detected during pre-launch system checks. The boost stage might have been set to work properly or it might not have, but a test of this magnitude and expense demands ability to monitor all mission critical systems so that all necessary data is available for post-mission review. When it became clear that this would not be the case, the mission was scrubbed, not failed.
[…]
The MSM will continue to denounce missile defense as impossible–I think they’ve given up on the argument that it would be “destabilizing”–right up to the moment when it is successfully deployed.

That’s the usual pattern.

  1. It looks to this ww 2 vet that “Comrad” Charac gave his underling “Comrad” Chretien his marching orders to ” stay out of Iraq, so you don’t help to kill the ‘golden goose’that are laying all those nice free ‘golden eggs’ for me, and Germany, and China, and Russia,and the UN that the western suckers believe is called the ‘oil for food program'” Comrad Chretien must have replied, “YAH, Herr master Charac, mission accomplished”! and while Comrad Charac was on the subject, he dropped a rider in there that was directed to Comrade Chretien to relay to the “New Guy” ( Comrade Martin) ” tell him to stay out of the missile defence program, and not to give the US a dime towards it, I am trying to break the economy of the US with my new “super power” the EU military I am building, and the more money that the US spends, the weaker they become.” did Comrade Chretien say ” Ache tung Comrade master?” Sure looks like it to me, and what did Comrade Martin reply? ” Anything you say Comrade Chretien,I will be happy to comply”! After all the fact that Comrad Martin did not fire Parrish for her views of the Americans but for calling Comrade Martin and the Liberals down, it must follow that Comrad Martin is in full agreement with Comrad Charac in his quest to reduce the US of A to a weakling. If Comrade Martin thinks he is fooling this old codger, he has to get up earlier in the morning

  2. Just checking over my list of possible outcomes of a test: Let’s see…there’s Success on one end and Failure on the other. Is “scrubbed” somewhere in the middle? Was it almost a success?
    Or maybe it was nearly a success. Or maybe somewhat of a success. Humorous.

  3. I think, “moderate” that if you read carefully, you’ll realize the test was scrubbed because of a failure in the systems monitoring the test. Thus, even a successful intercept wouldn’t have provided the data they needed.
    The issue is accuracy in reporting. In this case, it isn’t accurate to state that the test of the system itself failed. Nor is it a minor distinction.

  4. “Do I believe it could work tomorrow? ……..
    I’m not a rocket expert,” he (Martin)said in another TV interview.
    OK Paul, I’ll take you at your word. You are no rocket scientist.

  5. “Test” as in trying something out to see if it works,and if it doesn’t ,to FIX it. Jeeze,current in issue military hardware is being tested all the time. That is how you make up procedures to fix and amintain things.
